Listening For Ghosts by Mozakade Listening For Ghosts by Mozakade
I finally finished this painting. I really enjoyed doing it. I love painting deer, birds, and of course guns. :) This is probably one of my more favored pieces just because I liked how it came out so crisp.

And of course many of you ask me to give a description of the symbolism in my surreal work, so here it is for this one. :)

- The title of the piece is a bit ironic. The deer is like a ghost, being white and rarely seen.
- The deer himself represents ones inner self and how one is cautious who sees the real self, since deer are very cautious animals themselves.
- The deer being albino represents oneself in their purest for, the raw self, not hiding anything.
- The guns represent how one wears some kind of defense from just anyone seeing their true  selves. Always armed even one is comfortable and safe like in a quiet, peaceful forest.
- The chrome ball represents a mirror into ones soul, reflecting the raw truest form.
- The gold finches stand for happiness and good company.
- The antenna represents the self searching for other true forms (in other words how one searches for more lasting true relationships such as friends or partners)
- The clock on the gun stands for time of course, and how the soul lives on through time. Whether that time represented is limited or lives on forever, that's up to the viewers beliefs. :)
- The black lights represent guidance and searching for something of meaning and worth. I went with black lights to stay with the theme of ghosts since they are sometimes used in ghost hunting.
- The triangle represent the mind, body, and spirit from the three points one has.
- The pyramid represents a higher self, since pyramids go up.
- The dull colored forest represents how each soul stands out as an independent life energy.
- The whole ghost theme is that "ghosts" are rare and so is finding the truest selves of others.

Sorry if I missed any of the symbols, I think I covered them all.

Also, here are some of the process I went through to get to this finished piece. :)……

The antenna was a great touch, it adds another lovely level of bizarreness to it. (:

The fact that you showed the entire work process to get to this final piece makes this even more striking for me. It also reveals the time and effort you put into each and every piece. I love everything about this; the flashes of yellow from the leaves and finches as well as the ghastly appearance of the deer and black lights. The deer looks absolutely amazing in this. Very impressive work! :) (Smile)

Nice work, I love the ideas and symbolism you conveyed with this piece.  You always have such unique pieces of work.

Awesome work, as always! Thank you for sharing your explanation of the symbolism! What is your process for coming up with an image. Do you think of a rough image first then build the meaning around it, or do you come up with the concepts first?
Mozakade Featured By Owner Jun 13, 2016
I do both actually. Sometimes I randomly get hit with some idea and I have to create some kind of image to match the concept I want to convey, but other times I might start building a meaningless image and ideas start to hit me in the process and then I start to build around it. :)
